We talk about the value of validation, a lot. Specifically - before the company actually takes form. Here are 8 great Customer Development questions from Mike Fishbein to ask when you’re validating; they keep the bias out of answers and get to the real issues your potential customers are facing. They’ll help keep you focused on what really matters to your target market.

  • What’s the hardest part of your day?

  • What tasks take up the most time in your day?

  • What are some unmet needs you have?

  • What product do you wish you had that doesn’t exist yet?

  • What could be done to improve your experience with [process/role]?

  • What’s the hardest part about being a [demographic]?

  • What are your biggest/most important professional responsibilities/goals?

  • What are your biggest/most important personal responsibilities/goals?

Though some of these questions appear unfocused, many of them are pivotal to finding out if your product solves a pain point. If you’re asking the right questions, you’ll find out exactly what your customers need, even if it isn’t your current product idea.
